About The Dig Tree

Digging up the past on Muttons, Harrisons, Hooleys & Kavanaghs in Victoria and their countries of origin. Plus Bartley, McDonald, McMahon, Kelly, Jenkinson, Neivandt, Devlin, Bagot, Casey and others including the McCulloch family of my brother-in-law, John McCulloch as well as the McKinlay and Meisake family of my daughter-in-law, Kylielita MacKinlay.

My Mutton family ancestors in this tree go back as far as the late 15th century. In Australia and elsewhere, however, there are a number of Mutton families that descend from William Mutton (1730-1796) and Mary Parsons. However, none of those family trees have ever established just who the parents of William Mutton were. My own conclusions, based on first name "naming conventions", the movement of particular individuals between closely located neighbouring parishes (St Clether, Altarnun and Stoke Climsland), instances of cousin marrying cousin as well as a myriad of other minor coincidences, is that there is sufficient circumstantial evidence to point to this William being a sibling of Elizabeth Mutton (b 1731 Stoke Climsland) whose parents were John Mutton and Elizabeth Deacon. Elizabeth's daughter, Ann Veal, married William's son John and their son James married Ann Mutton, daughter of John's brother Richard. The second marriage was definitely a case of cousin marrying cousin and I believe it most likely that Ann Veal's marriage to John Mutton was also a case of cousin marrying cousin.

FAMILY VISITORS TO THE SITE ARE KINDLY REQUESTED TO SIGN THE GUEST BOOK AS I'M NOT SURE THERE IS ANY OTHER WAY OF KNOWING WHO HAS SEEN IT AND WHO HASN'T.

The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
